8 updates on current fuel situation : First shipment under Indian loan to arrive tonight

  • The first diesel tanker received under the Indian loan assistance is scheduled to arrive in the country tonight (20).The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation stated that the ship contained 35,000 metric tons of diesel.
  • The payment of dollars to the ship carrying diesel and jet fuel, which has been anchored in Sri Lankan waters for about 5 days, has been postponed until tomorrow (21). The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation has not been able to find US dollar 42 million needed to pay for above shipment.
  • A ship containing 38,000 metric tons of Petrol, arrived in the country yesterday. Fuel distribution has began from the ship.
  • The 2nd fuel tanker received under the Indian loan assistance is scheduled to arrive in the country on 24th. The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation stated that the ship contains petrol.
  • Ministry of Energy says petrol stocks are available for 8 more days.
  • The Sapugaskanda oil refinery has been shutdown due to the shortage of crude oil.
  • Many fuel stations around the country have been forced to close down due to the fuel shortages faced.
