SriLankan pilots launch “Work-To Rule” TU action

The Sri Lankan Airlines Pilots’ Forum has commenced a ‘work to rule’ trade union action.

A senior spokesman of the forum has said that the Sri Lankan Airlines administration had failed to provide a fair solution to their demands and therefore they had to resort to trade union action again.

Accordingly, the pilots of Sri Lankan Airlines will only perform the flight duties assigned to them on their flight schedule and will refrain from performing duties on approved annual and other public holidays, he said.

The spokesman further added that Sri Lankan Airlines did not employ enough pilots to run flights regularly. Therefore, Pilots have so far reported to duty without any hesitation, even on annual leave and other holidays to fill the shortfall.

He also said that it’s not justifiable for the Sri Lankan Airlines administration to not to provide a fair solution to the Pilot’s demands while the airline is making profits now with the increased number of passenger arrivals.

According, the senior spokesman reiterated that the work to rule trade union action will continue until a fair solution is not provided for the pilot’s issues.
