WhatsApp : millions of users get a stunning free upgrade

WhatsApp has announced the launch of a new feature that will offer an improved way of sending photos to friends and family.

If you have WhatsApp on your iPhone or Android device then it’s worth watching out for a stunning new feature that’s just been launched. The popular chat app, which is now owned by Meta, has announced that it is allowing its billions of users to send photos to contacts in an improved HD format.

That means when you whizz a selfie of yourself on the beach to the family group chat, everyone will see the image in its full pixel-packed glory rather than being crunched down to a less impressive size.

Confirming the changes, Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg said: “Now you can send in HD.”

The upgrade will be rolling out in the coming weeks with it also thought that users will soon be able to send videos in this higher quality as well.

Of course, bigger photos mean more data and memory being used to send these mega files across the web. Luckily, for those worried about how much extra this will use up, WhatsApp appears to have those concerns covered.

Every image sent will automatically default to a lower resolution “Standard” option with users having to manually select the HD setting if they want to improve things.

If a recipient is also using their mobile data and the speeds are poor, they will also be offered the chance to receive the message in standard quality rather than being forced to download the more memory-hungry HD file. (Mirror.co.uk)
