‘Just a love tap’: Trump downplays US latest strikes on Iran

US President Donald Trump on Thursday downplayed recent American strikes on Iranian targets, describing them as a “love tap” while insisting that the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran remains in effect.

Speaking to ABC News following reports of clashes involving US naval vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said the situation had not escalated into a breakdown of the ceasefire agreement.

“The ceasefire is going. It’s in effect,” Trump said during the phone interview, adding that the strikes were “just a love tap.”

The remarks came after US Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces carried out what it described as “self-defense” strikes against Iranian targets after Iranian attacks on US destroyers transiting the Strait of Hormuz. According to CENTCOM, US forces intercepted the attacks and responded militarily, while no US assets were hit.

Iran, however, accused the United States of violating the ceasefire and claimed American strikes targeted ships and civilian areas near the strategic waterway.
