Three arrested in Borella over alleged forged land documents operation

Three suspects have been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with an alleged operation involving forged land documents, fake national identity cards and counterfeit official seals.

The arrests were made on Friday (05) following a raid conducted by officers attached to the Financial and Commercial Crimes Investigation Division of the CID at a house on N.M. Perera Mawatha in Borella.

During the search, investigators recovered two original files containing deed copies from the Land Registry, forged documents relating to land transactions, four fake national identity cards, around 600 counterfeit official seals and electronic equipment allegedly used to produce forged documents.

Police also seized a car and a motorcycle believed to have been used in the commission of the offences, along with cash amounting to Rs. 1.5 million and several other assets.

Based on information uncovered during the investigation, officers later arrested a third suspect in Delkanda.

The suspects, aged 54, 55 and 59, are residents of Borella, Dickwella and Horana.

Further investigations are being carried out by the Financial and Commercial Crimes Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department.
