Sri Lanka has recorded 89,639 dengue cases so far in 2026, with 65 deaths reported, according to the latest figures from the National Dengue Control Unit. The case fatality rate stands at 0.07 percent.
The highest monthly surge was seen in July, which alone accounted for 29,973 cases, followed by June with 21,533 cases. In August, 4,292 cases have already been reported as of midnight on August 9.
District‑wise, Gampaha leads with 19,067 cases (21.27%), followed by Colombo with 14,967 cases (16.70%) and Kandy with 6,366 cases (7.10%). Other high‑burden districts include Matara (5,735) and Kalutara (4,914).
By province, the Western Province remains the epicenter, accounting for more than half of the national total, 47,448 cases (52.93%). The Southern Province reported 11,761 cases (13.12%), while the Central Province recorded 7,208 cases (8.04%).
Health authorities note that 119 MOH areas were classified as high‑risk in Week 31 of 2026, with an average of 1,509 new cases per day.
Health authorities continue to urge the public to follow preventive measures and eliminate mosquito breeding sites to curb the spread.
