Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) politician Milinda Rajapaksha is in Geneva, where he says he intends to raise concerns over Sri Lanka’s proposed 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, the detention of former SIS chief Suresh Sallay and the arrest of MP Namal Rajapaksa.
Rajapaksha said he would raise the issues during the ongoing United Nations human rights sessions in Geneva, while also drawing attention to what he described as concerns over democracy, the rule of law, liberty and human rights in Sri Lanka.
In a post on X, Rajapaksha said he was returning to Geneva after 18 years, this time to represent what he described as “suppressed opposition political voices” in the country.
He said the issues he intends to highlight should be considered beyond party politics and in the broader context of democratic rights and the rule of law.
