Sri Lanka will once again host Raid Amazones, one of the world’s leading women-only adventure challenges, from 2 to 10 November 2026, with this year’s edition taking place in the scenic district of Kalutara.
More than 250 international participants, together with organisers, media representatives and medical teams, are expected to travel to Sri Lanka for the event, which is expected to further strengthen the country’s reputation as a destination for adventure, nature and experiential tourism.
Founded in 2001 by French adventure event specialist Alexandre Debanne, Raid Amazones combines endurance, teamwork, outdoor adventure and cultural discovery, while promoting women’s empowerment, resilience and international friendship.
Speaking about the event, Debanne said Sri Lanka has become the country’s most frequent host destination.
“This will be the eighth time Raid Amazones is coming to Sri Lanka. Out of the 26 editions we have organised, Sri Lanka has hosted the event more than any other country. Every time we return, Sri Lanka offers something new – more adventure, incredible people, rich culture and unforgettable experiences,” he said.
Sri Lanka has hosted Raid Amazones on several occasions since 2004, with previous editions taking place in 2004, 2009, 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023. Over the years, participants have explored the country’s beaches, forests, lagoons, rural villages and cultural landmarks, helping to promote Sri Lanka to international audiences.
According to organisers, previous editions generated more than 300 international media features, in addition to extensive television, radio, digital and social media coverage, providing significant global exposure for Sri Lanka’s tourism industry.
Maxime Wickramasinghe, Director – Marketing & Business Development at Connaissance De Ceylan, said the event has become a valuable destination marketing platform.
He noted that the international media coverage and authentic content shared by participants continue to highlight Sri Lanka’s natural beauty, culture and unique travel experiences to audiences around the world.
The 2026 edition will introduce competitors to Kalutara’s diverse landscapes, including golden beaches, rivers, wetlands, forests and rubber plantations, while offering opportunities to experience Sri Lankan cuisine, traditions and hospitality throughout the competition.
Deputy Minister of Tourism Prof. Ruwan Ranasinghe said events such as Raid Amazones help position Sri Lanka as a destination where adventure, nature, culture and community come together, while showcasing the country’s diversity to international visitors.
The event will also continue its long-standing partnership with SriLankan Airlines, which has supported Raid Amazones since 2004.
Head of Marketing at SriLankan Airlines, Saminda Perera, said the airline is proud to continue supporting the event, adding that participants who experience Sri Lanka first-hand often become ambassadors for the destination when they return to their home countries.
Raid Amazones Sri Lanka 2026 will be organised through a partnership between Raid Amazones, SriLankan Airlines and Connaissance De Ceylan, with the support of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau. Connaissance De Ceylan will oversee ground operations, while Turyaa Kalutara will serve as the official accommodation partner.
Organisers said participant safety will be managed by the international Raid Amazones medical and logistics teams in collaboration with Connaissance De Ceylan, the Sri Lanka Police and relevant government authorities.
Beyond being an international sporting event, Raid Amazones Sri Lanka 2026 is expected to celebrate adventure, cultural exchange and women’s empowerment while providing another valuable opportunity to showcase Sri Lanka’s tourism potential to the world.
