Rain expected in some parts of Sri Lanka today

Several spells of showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Monaragala, Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 pm.

Mainly dry weather will prevail over the other areas of the island.

Strong winds of about 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the Central hills, Northern, North-central and Central provinces and in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.

The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. 

Meanwhile, a few showers may occur in the sea areas off the coast extending from Negombo to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Winds will be south-westerly. Wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50-55 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kalpitiya to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Wind speed can increase up to 45 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Kankasanthurai via Mullaittivu.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Kalpitiya to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at times. The sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Kankasanthurai via Mullaittivu may be fairly rough at times.
