Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) conducted a media tour of the Singhalese Sports Club (SSC) Grounds in Colombo on January 2, 2026, to highlight the latest developments underway in preparation for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The SSC has been confirmed as one of the host venues for the global tournament and will stage five matches, including the opening game on February 7, 2025, between Pakistan and the Netherlands.

During the tour, officials from Sri Lanka Cricket and the SSC outlined key infrastructure upgrades, with special focus on the installation of a state-of-the-art floodlight system. The new LED-based lighting system meets international sports and broadcasting standards, featuring 630 high-performance LED luminaires mounted on six high-mast towers. With a 5700K color temperature and a Color Rendering Index (CRI) of 90, the system ensures superior visual clarity, uniform illumination, and reduced glare, while an advanced lighting control system allows for multiple operational and dynamic lighting modes to enhance the spectator experience.

In addition to the floodlight installation, several other developments are nearing completion, including upgraded players’ dressing rooms, new offices for match officials and anti-corruption personnel, improved broadcast control and commentary rooms, and the construction of VIP spectator boxes. These enhancements are aimed at elevating the SSC Grounds to the highest international standards ahead of the prestigious ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
