The announcement follows the groundbreaking ceremony for the first bridge under the China Aid Emergency Post-Disaster Reconstruction Project in Sri Lanka.

The Embassy highlighted the importance of roads and bridges to Sri Lanka’s infrastructure and economic development, noting that the reconstruction initiative will help reconnect communities affected by disasters.

It further stated that rebuilding the bridges would strengthen the resilience of economic activities and deliver tangible benefits to the Sri Lankan public.

Describing the initiative as a reflection of the longstanding friendship between the two countries, the Embassy reiterated China’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.

The Embassy also called for further deepening the China-Sri Lanka Strategic Cooperative Partnership and carrying forward the spirit of the historic Rice and Rubber Pact for future generations.
